What a funny thing limitations are. Our relationship with our own limitations causes such strife and angst. The voice of our culture often screams to conquer our limitations until they are no more.
I would agree to a point that this mentality has indeed brought our society to a wonderful place. I’m thankful we have modern medicines and practices that are able to keep loved ones alive. How amazing it is that we can experience a warm home without the need to build a wood stove and chop the wood to make it that way. And let’s not forget how easy it is to learn any new skill with YouTube being around.
Yet, what if God implemented these limits for a greater reason? What if he put such limits in place to remind us of His authority? If he has commanded the ocean “thus far you shall come and no farther” (Job 38:11), then why should we think we are great enough to surpass the boundaries placed upon us by the same God?
What if in beginning to play by the specific limitations granted to us we would begin to play our melody of worship to the Father. Then, with practice, we might be afforded the opportunity to be challenged with more difficult music and find that we have joined a symphony of adoration to Adonai.

Limitations

Limitations
      To step into humility
A gift of remembrance of our need
      Our innocence, our vulnerabilities
As a good & kind father implements
      boundaries
      So does my God
In His simple & cosmic rules
           That bind together the balance
                Of the universe –
Reminding me of His authority, power, and Lordship over all
A beautiful picture of His mercy,
      my need
Now, I will join with the rest of the universe
      In submission
      In worship
To a King who is worthy
To a God who has no limits, no boundaries –
      All authority

Dust to dust my body will be but my soul shall dwell with Thee

Scripture to Consider:
 Job 38:10-11
“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?”
 Genesis 2:2-3
“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”
