The House of Hope
is a place of refuge where practical, relational, & spiritual needs are met through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and lives are wholly anchored in Jesus the Christ.
The Need
A Daytime Center

It doesn’t take much time in Duluth to recognize not only the high levels of poverty, but also the prevalent homelessness. With around 17% of people living below the poverty line and roughly 6,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in St. Louis County, it is obvious something needs to be done. Many of the current resources provide only relief necessities such as a quick meal and a place to sleep at night. The House of Hope will be available to bridge this time gap through being a daytime outreach center. Through reaching people during the day, we foresee individuals making strides towards a life of thriving versus a life of surviving since most people make big life decisions during the day.

Meet Gary
Where it all began

We came to know Gary as a dear friend through the lightning strike. Gary lived on the streets of Duluth for many years after losing his job as an air traffic controller and then losing his wife and children.

Gary shared that from his perspective the most effective homeless program Duluth has ever seen was the original CHUM center. Beginning as a house open during the day, the original CHUM center met the basic needs of the homeless and created space for community. Gary recalled this program making the greatest difference because it gave a proactive opportunity for change.

Gary’s experience catalyzed the vision for the House of Hope.

The Mission: Practical, Relational, Spiritual

Practical
Matthew 25:35-36 & Hebrews 13:1-3

We show the love of Jesus through the meeting of physical needs.

Specifics: We offer food, water, clothing, essential supplies, and laundry services.

Relational
1 John 1:1-3 & 1 Thessalonians 2:8

Everyone needs a healthy community in which they belong and feel loved. Experiencing healthy relationships is a significant part of the healing process.

Specifics: We see people; we listen to their stories; and we embrace them as God’s creation.

Spiritual
Matthew 28:18-20 & James 5:13-16

As a part of Hope City Church, we believe every person should have an opportunity to intimately know their creator, who loves them. We will have people available for those types of conversations.

Specifics: We model and offer prayer; we share the good news of Jesus; and we offer opportunities for growth.
